Is the engine a 5.3 or 6.0?

he didn't say that he paid $1000 to have a 6L swapped in
he also didn't imply that they upgraded the 5.3L engine and made it a 6L
it was probably a warranty job, but he paid $1000 to have them put in a 6L when warranty paid the cost for the 5.3L

I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread knows that. From what I understood his old engine was f'ed so since they were swapping a new engine in, they asked him if he wanted to upgrade to a 6.0 therefor installing a different lq4/lq9.

What dealership is going to put a 6.0 in a truck with a worn out 4l60e and who knows what other problems the truck has since the guy lets his GF drive it?

Yeah thats what was implied by the dealership. The engine had always made funny noises ever since he bought it and tried to get them to replace it but they never would since it was still running. So we took it upon ourselves to finish it off. So after the motor finally went he took to the dealership and asked them what it would cost to have a 6.0 put in, and they said it's a 1000 dollar fee and thats what he payed them for the engine. Because it should have been free because the engine was still under factory warranty but he wanted the 6.0 so thats "apparently" what they charge for that job and just put another 5.3 in it.

sounds like he did get screwed like you said. but i dont think the stealership even has a OS? for the 6.0 and 60E?
But if it says 4.8/5.3 on the block its either of the 2.

Why wouldn't they? I just put 305/50R20's on a Silverado SS with a VortecMAX 6.0L, 4L60E and 6-lug 9.5" rear end. The owner didn't even know he had a stronger rear end than stock and was surprised to see disc brakes on the rear axle when he inspected the pads, so I doubt he swapped in a 60E by himself. This leads one to believe the dealership sold it that way.

Only way we can do it is to find an SS truck, download info from it and install it into truck getting work done. And even then its risky cuz you are using a diffrent vin and th truck may not accept it.
