Default Is the engine a 5.3 or 6.0?

A friend of mine blew up his blew 5.3 in his 2002 Z71 king cab 1500. So he went to the Chevrolet dealership and payed a 1000$ upcharge fee and they put a 6.0 in it. Later his girlfriend burnt up the number 8 piston ring in it playing in the mud. The motor was running fine before he pulled it out, it was just burning oil really bad. I now have the 6.0 because he found another 6.0 of a Cadilac EXT he got for a steal. I got to looking at the motor and noticed it said 4.8/5.3 on the block. So I'm wandering if it is a 6.0 or not. Any help or answers would be appreciated. I'm wanting to sell the motor if anyone is interested, I want 500$ for it.

The 4.8 and 5.3 share the same block. The 6.0 block is completely different. Looks like he got screwed and they put a 4.8/5.3 in it. I would raise hell on that one.

i would be ****** if that happened to me. But it doesnt suprise me that the dealership would do that, i wouldnt even be suprised if that was the original block that they just slapped in some new pistons (or whatever it needed). It seems to me that dealerships are becoming bigger and bigger crooks by the day.

Yeah thats what I was thinking but oh well. Well the 5.3 I have is for sale. It's a pick up only and I live in Gainesville FL. I'll take 500$ for it unless someone can make me another offer.

What I want to know is how you only pay $1000 and get a 6.0 engine and have it installed. It sounds like he was confused about what they were really doing.

I agree. I paid the dealership $6300 to replace the 4.3L V6 in my Sonoma a few years ago with a brand new short block 4.3L. They reused everything else and it was still $6300. A 6.0L would require new heads at the minimum, in addition to a new PCM tune. I can't see an entire 6.0L swap happening for $1000, not a chance.

He said it was a $1000 upcharge, which mean an extra $1000 on top of the bill (or warranty claim???) is my understanding of the post. Not $1000 total for the whole job.
