electric shock

I used to work for a crane manufacturer as an electrician. we built one crane with a toshiba 400hp electric motor. it was 3 phase 480 with cables as big around as your wrist. it had a trick soft start system that would absorb the 'heat' on start up. I put a amp meter on it one day and saw it spike to 1600+ amps. I was standing in front of the box maybe 2' away from the cables and all the hair on my body including the hair on my head stood up. that was some big electricity. we had special gloves to wear when dealing with the stuff and during startup you could actually feel the electricity going thru the wire. it was weird and scary at the same time.
once the softstart bypassed and the 400 amp contactor came in the motors surprisingly didn't use that much juice. that was also when I discovered circuit breakers on buildings/houses allow a spike before tripping for startup. that is how I saw 1600 amps on a 500 amp breaker.
you are more likely to be killed by 110 than 220 or 480 because 110 will hold on to you while 220/480 is more likely to throw you off. as stated amps kill not volts. never under estimate 110.

I got the poop knocked out of me earlier. I moved the car, got out and went to grab the glass (fiance's crapstang) to shut the door. Before I touched it, it knocked the **** out of my finger.
David's right ... dry air insulates better.
