electric shock

Default electric shock

well when we were at the track last night, when i would get out of the truck and touch it i would get shocked is this normal? or do i not have all the grounds hooked up some where????

That happens to me all the time in the winter, I am assuming from when the air is more dry. But I think it is just from the cloth seats and your clothes making static electricity.

It is static electricity. It will not harm anything unless you are playing with small electronics such as microchips.

abbo7 is correct, dry air has less impedence than humid air, therefore, electricity can travel easier.

i try and touch my forearm to the edge of the door(thru my coat or shirt) when i get out before i touch it with my hand, hurts less.

yeah that happens to me too. It too started when it got cold here in AZ, but i dont think it will happen today since the high is 75. Sorry guys. Im always afraid of getting shocked at the gas station, I think I might blow up.

Grab the door when you get out on the metal part. I found at the top where the door skin rolls over and is welded to the inside of the door works best. Put your thumb on that seam and hold it until you aren't touching the seat anymore and you will be fine. That will ground you to the metal and neutralize the charge before it hurts.

Nova, have you ever ruined any microchips with static electricity or are you just saying that as the general rule of thumb. I've always heard that in school, but to be honest, I've NEVER cooked anything from static that I know of.
