Default E fans...benefits?

I don't know much about performance modding but i asked a buddy of mine about E fans. He said to hold off until i have nothing else to spend money on because the mechanical clutch fan should would not leech much power at all. I notice E fans are pretty popular here though....what are the benefits? what do they cost? knowing next to nothing, would i need to pay for install?

Efans will reduce resistance increasing available h p. Reports of 10-15hp gained. IMO your friend is correct. You should look at
intake
headers
exhaust
gears
torque converter
before swapping to electric fans.

I did electric fans first, and picked up a solid 18 hp.

I believe e-fans were the only change (that affects power output) that GM made between the '04 and '05 model year trucks, and even the factory bumped the HP rating by 10 for the 5.3L. Take that for what you will.

You also have to wire in a controller for the fans themselves if you want them to turn on at a certain temp (i.e. work automatically). There are aftermarket harnesses/tuning that can allow your PCM to do this. You could alternatively wire them in to a manual switch, but I would be afraid of getting distracted in traffic and not reralizing that I was overheating until I saw steam.

They make working on anything on the front of the engine easier as an added bonus.

Your PCM is set from the factory to control the fans, Wait4Me would have to go out of their way to disable that function. They can make them turn on at different points if you like (cooler for lower thermostat, etc.).

Pre-05 PCM's can be programmed to control e-fans, that was what I was referring to.

what would the benefit be from a cooler Tstat and programming the efans to match? i guess that just means you would be running the efans left often? therefore you would be leeching power less often? how much power do they 'leech' ?
