Default DIY: Injector install.

i figured i'd document this if anyone just wasn't sure. if you can change your oil, you change your injectors out.

vehicle: 2002 gmc sierra 4.8 2wd.

tools needed: assorted sockets. 7mm(ecu), 8mm, 10mm, 15mm. 10mm wrench, 3/8" fuel line disconnector, needle nose's, small flat head, knife, rags, silicone grease.

injectors used: factory 8.1 truck. 42lb flow rate.

1. disconnect battery. obviously. loosen belt, remove fan shroud, alternator, and intake.

2. disconnect tb and cruise, remove bracket (3) 8mm bolts and bracket behind it 3 (10mm). disconnect injector connections..

3. disconnect fuel line... push 3/8" end in and walla. fuel will go everywhere so have a rag handy. disconnect vac. line from fuel pressure reg. as well.

4. remove (4) 8mm bolts holding fuel rail down on manifold... rock it around gently. when it feels like its getting loose, pull up and side to side. it will be full so do not tip it. clean the manifold boss's now... I used a 20ga bore mop with gas...

this is what you got from it... good to go, now drain it out real good.

5. remove injectors by ulling retaining clip straight out.. they are tight. small flat head or needle nose work great. clean rail boss's too.

8 new 42#r's...

6. grease both o-rings on new injectors lightly and fit them in the rail... install new clips.

7. guide them in, avoid touching the nozzle itself on anything.. put one side in then the other... seat the rail as squarley as possible to ensure a good seal. bolt them down, with red loctight. reconnect fuel lines and fuel pres. reg., reinstall brackets in reverse order, intake, shroud.

8. you should have had your tune before hand if you dont tune it yourself.
reconnect battery... turn key to on. dont start. do this about 8 times. check for leaks.... none? good.. have fun watch you a/f.
enjoy.

Yessir, good write up...I know a few short cuts to make it quicker...I didn't disconnect the fuel line, alternator, brackets, etc. when I did mine.

FYI, I just bought a set of 8.1 injectors, so that is going to be added to the to do list when we swap in that new cam.

the reason i took everything was for two reasons... 1 to show the audience what to do with minimal intereference. 2 i feel it alows better seating when you put the whole rail/injectors modual on...just my preference... i replied with my phone so i hope this posts..
