Differance between 1500 and 2500 4x4 (no HD)?
#1
Besides the motor and lug pattern what is the differance? The body looks the same. Does it have a different fram, rear, or suspension? Does the 2500 ride up higher?
Thanks for any info

I think these are correct, but correct me if I am wrong:
1500 1/2 ton vs. 2500 3/4 ton
beefier frame on the 2500 series
definite higher ride height
different hood on 2500
4L60E (1500) vs 4L80E (2500)

beefier frame on the 2500 series
definite higher ride height
different hood on 2500
4L60E (1500) vs 4L80E (2500)

Here's the 2000 model year specs.
My brother has a '99 2500 4x4 ext-cab, so feel free to ask anything about it.

ASide from the mechanical hardware mentioned, GVW's are higher on the 2500's vs. 1500's. Off the top of my head, 1500's are 7200lb GVW's and 2500's are 8600lb GVW's. Conversly 2500HD's and 3500's have 9200lb GVW's.
Technically, the 2500HD is a 3500 truck with single rear wheels. 3500 is solely a dually truck.

Be careful which engine you choose. The 6.0L and 8.1L both have piston slap problems. Maybe the Duramax is the way to go if you can swallow the price. Check out http://www.angelfire.com/tx5/gmpistonslap/index.html for a lot of info on the piston slap problems. My 2001 sounds awful and the dealer won't do anything to help.
