Couple QUESITONS (carburated 350 vs. Vortec 350)

Default Couple QUESITONS (carburated 350 vs. Vortec 350)

hey guys i really want a v8 in the blazer and if im gonna do it im gonna do it right- nice mid range cam, vortec heads, good valvetrain, built bottom end, and a single turbo-
So a couple questions

Carburation
1.)How do you turbo a carburator? How does it know when to add more fuel ?
2.) What about the tranny? I want 600whp and i want an overdrive unit-
3.) Do i need to swap in a 700r4? can they hold 600hp?
4.) With the turbo will the 350 be plenty dependable?

Vortec?
1.) Is there fuel system just as limited as ours?
2.) Is it a pretty easy swap? basically one of the simplest swaps?
3.)will my 4l60e i have right now be fine for a vortec 350
4.) How much hp can the stock 350 block handle? 450? 500? whp ?

I dont know anything about the carb motors but as for the vortecs,1. the fuel system is notoriously bad. And to go to a higher flowing injector you would have to go with the marine intake manifold because other injecors wont fit into stock manifolds. 2. I dont think it would be too bad. 3. I have a 4l60e on my vortec 350 so Im sure yours is fine too. 4. im not sure but there are lots of restictions on these motors, so not alot.

In summary, just go out and get an LS1 stick it in there and be done. You can find them cheap. Actually my buddy is parting one out right now.

im really thinking LT1 if i go fuel injection- much cheaper

There is a Link to another forum in that thread, let me know if you have problems accessing it. Basically this guy took a 377 SBC and a T76 turbo and made 929 hp at 5400 rpm, 1049 ftlb at 4500 at 18psi boost. This is with a blow thru carb setup.

Motor specs are:
377 cid 4.125" bore x 3.48" stroke, bowtie block, 8.5/1.
Ported GM FastBurn heads with 2.02/1.625 valves (Inconel exhaust valves)
230/230 - 114 .590"/.590"
Victor Jr.
CSU 750, CSU hat
Aeromotive 11101 pump and 132-02 regulator
T-76GTS turbo and Precision "750 hp" air/air intercooler

A good friend of mine has also built forced induction motors with blow thru carbs......I don't know a hole lot about it but from what I've seen they use a fuel pressure regulator that increases fuel pressure as boost increase. He has a '69 Ford pickup that has a 429 with D3R Procharger w/blow thru carb setup. Race weight of his truck is 4070lbs and has been a best of 8.92@153 in the 1/4. He ran that time with 93 octane gas and ET Streets. It is also insured and inspected and sees many street miles. Nothing like riding in an 8sec truck on the street.....If you are interested in talking to him I can give you his contact info. He is located in south Louisiana.

wow that is cool- is his truck pretty reliable? and so basically @ 7psi i would be making my target 600whp lol- that is crazy !!!!! im gonna look into this for sure

if i used vortech heads instead of the fast burn heads (for cost) do you think they would do just fine?

also does anyone know how much it costs to get a carb to run blow through?

If your thinking of going blow though carb setup, check out turbomustangs.com

They have a whole section for blow though info plus a nice GM section too.

Check out http://www.csucarbs.com/ they build great blow thru carbs.

Your tranny will blow with 600whp so you will need a built unit for the 700R4 or 4L60E.

A stock bottom end Vortec 350 will handle 550 fwhp but the head gaskets will only handle 425hp.....said by James B.

Depends on your components as too how much power you can make...with a stock 350 engine at 7 psi....it would be around 375hp or so.
