I did the same thing once. You need a special tool to get it off, or if your skilled with a dremel, just cut it off. I would imagine you could just clamp it to the core, but it's going to be hard to get a clamp in there. Besides its only like a $7 part.

I did the same thing hooking up new heater hoses durring the 408 install. I looped one heater hose back around to the water pump until I got a new coupler. They are only a couple of bucks at O'Reilly. They should have them on the aisle w/ all the "help" items and miscellaneous fittings and clips. They only had one part number. I used the same one to replace both couplers. It takes a quick disconnect tool w/ a fairly long "snout". Bought a set of lisle brand at O'reilly too. My others were too short.

Happened to me during torque converter install. Think I was reaching over and leaned over / on the hose. If the broken piece of coupler is broken inside the hose. Remove section of hose with cupler within it (cut off whats necessary with razor knife). Use a ford fuel line disconnect tool to remove existing section from heater core pipe. Goofy coupler from O'Reilly's didn't work for me, save the 7 bucks and slip the water hose over the heater core pipe and use a spare hose clamp to hold in place.

Good luck

I broke both of mine off quite a while ago, just clamped the hose on there and haven't had any leaking at all.
