alright so after the cam swap and retune and all that the truck runs great and USUALLY starts perfectly. but everyonce in a while ill turn the key it will try to crank and i usually only hold it for a couple seconds and it sounds like its about to start and i pull off. then i try agian immediately when it promptly starts and revvs to about 2000 rpm and quite a but of smoke come from the exhaust. it think its blueish but im not sure. blue or grey. anyways, the two never happen seperately and its not always on the cold start or always on the hot start. i heard that everytime you turn the key on/off it injects some fuel into the cylinder cuz you are supposed to cycle the key on off three or four times when you run out of gas to prime it so when the smoke comes out is it just extra fuel being burned? it also kinda sounds like typical genIII oil consumption problems too but i dont know how many drops of oil makes how much smoke so i wouldnt know how much im losing...anyone?

Most of the time when you see blue smoke it means engine oil has leaked into the cylinder area. Even if it's a minimal leak into the cylinder you'll see the blueish smoke that you described. You might want to check all you're seals and gaskets. If your're seeing black smoke you might be runin' ritch.

its bluish gray honestly. definitly not black. i would have to go with more blue than grey though. truck has 85k on it. why would it only puff intermitantly rather than every startup or even during driving? where is the valve guide seal?

It cab do it every so often because the seals are not GONE but show some wear.So sometimes you have a little oil sitting there sometimes you don't
This is all drunk assumption of course.
