ASP pulley arrived chipped should I install?
#1
I received my pulley set today and I am really exited.
How hard are they to install? Anyone have any tips? How tos? By the way, my crank pulley arrived a little bit chipped from the balancer.
Its nothing big, but it's visible and feelable. Will it affect anything? I dont want my engine to run weirdly.
Or do you guys think I should send it back?

Pictures would be nice. After watching my friend and his causin install it on my truck, its not as hard as I thought it would be. If you have the prober tool(pulley remover) and you are mechanically inclined, you should have not trouble doing it.

Hey, whats up Shark_g, have you ran at the track with your truck yet? Yeah well, thats a problem cus I hardly have any tools, nor a pulley puller plus I have never installed anything like this on a vehicle. Do you know which things I will have to remove from the truck in order to get the new pulley in? Anyone know about how much $$$ a shop will charge to install them?

ok the stock pully is called a wagon wheel and you wil need to rent a wagon wheel pulley puller from auto zone or similar, the first thing to take off the pully is get it loose on the back of pulley you will feel a nipple or (tit) put a 1/2"drive on it and turn pulley until it hits the water pump once you have stoped the pulley from turning then your going to need about 270' lbs to break it loose, after you get it loose use wagon wheel puller, it will only pull off so far and then your going to need to place another bolt behind the puller and crank to get pulley all the way off. going back on is where your going to need some help under the truck on pasenger side is a plate on the transmission remove it and between the transmission case and the flywheel use large screwdriver to hold flywheel in place while you tighten pulley to 30"lbs and then tighten pulley bolt three flat side bolt turns or until 270"lbs.
if useing only crank plulley then go with gates 060888

v8 - I'm going to check that (tit) out on the back of the pulley. That's a good deal. I had no idea there was something like that on the pulley.

Hey thanks for the info. Those pics really will help alot. I will be going tomorrow to autozone, and rent a wagon wheel pulley puller. By the way, did you guys take the pullies off from the top or from the bottom of the truck.
I think that from the bottom is a bit easier. What about the balancer, do I have to put it back with the new pulley or do I dispose it? I dont even know what the balancer is for!

If you are talking about paint chips, it will be fine. Mine has chips all over it. I just colored them in with a marker so it looks fine
