Default anyone running the superchip programmer on a 6.0

If so how do you like it. My buddy went from a hypertech 3 to a diablo to the superchip on his 2001 silverado hd and the superchip seems to be the best all around programmer. It gives him around 2-3 extra miles per gallon and about about 30% more horsepower. The horsepower gain is not as good as the diablo but the gas milage is alot better. I was wondering if anyone else is getting similar results. Also it allows you to not have to use the 160" thermostat which seems to also kill gas milage.

I believe the most you could get out of a generic handheld, like superchips, is probably in the 15-30hp range. Not 30%. Maybe 10%. Custom tuning is the only way to go. Nearly the same price and a huge difference.

Cool

I have a 2003 1500HD with the 6.0L Vortec. I have only tried the Superchips 2280 but my results are similar to your friend's. As measured with a G Tech Pro Competition, based on the average of 5 runs each, I show a HP increase of 27.5 and decrease to 60mph of .98sec. I saw no change in gas mileage but you will have to use 91 or better octane. The use of a 160 thermo is not required and causes the engine to run rich. This allows more timing advance without detonation but decreases gas mileage and is bound to foul things up in the long run.

all the best

Jim

Skip the handhelds and go with a custom tune. There is no comparison

I thought the custom tunes were only fore highly modified trucks, (cams, headers, etc.) The only thing I plan on running next to the programmer is the vortec intake I have on there now. Maybe headers in about 6 or 7 months when I can afford them.

Nope. You can gain performance and milage with a custom tune along with adjusting everything else any handheld could. Even stock.

So are you able to switch back to stock with the custom tunes like the handhelds? and how do they work do they come from a laptop or what?

no need to switch back and forth, the GM scan tools can't identify if anything has been screwed with (my work has the TECH2 scantool, I went through everything and nothing popped up saying void warrenty). I know with Wester's (not sure with Nelson's, I don't have one) he loads the latest updates so the GM dealer doesn't have to reflash it. Custom tunes the best
