Default Another 4.8 Bites The Dust!!!!!!!!!!

Some of you might remeber a thread I started a few weeks back when I sprayed my n20 for the second time and thought I bent a pushrod and others thought it was a piston. I ended up doing cam, springs, pushrods, and a 160 stat and the "knocking" went away. I was happy! Here is the thread-
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250288

Well I finally got my updated tune and there wer a few shifting and rev limiter issues and I was showing my buddy(CRAZUCYTER4.8) and lets just say about 2-3 miles into our trip somehting bad happend and there was really bad clanking and knocking and the motor was shaking! LOL! Im so sick Im laughing about it! So I say **** Ill bring it in tomorrow morning. I bring it to my guy and at idle it was sounding to bad at all just s light knock and y guy said it could be a collapsed lifter but he would open it up. Well he calls me about 2 hours later and say the #3 spark plug is twisted all up and that most likely there is piston and bock damage! He is taking the heads off to make sure and either way they need to come off. The good thing I guess is he has a Ls1 shortblock out of a Firehawk that had like 9-10k miles on it and the guy wants like $800-$900 for it! So it looks like I will have the LS1 in late this week early next week! Im going out there at lunch to see the damage and I will get some pics when its all said and done!

Man that sounds like good news to me!! What is he charging for labor and stuff? Im sure you and a buddy could do the shortblock swap yourselves and save some money. I wonder if he would want more for the shortblock then. The higher compression from the 5.7 should be nice with the nitrous.

Hell yes the 5.7l will be nice. But if you don't get the tune straightend out you will keep breaking motors. It will get old quick. Don't destroy that nice 5.7 now.

Actually the motor is one of his customers. He took it out and the guy figured if he was going to sell it that would be the place to do it at. He wanted $1500 for the motor and my "mechanic" told him he would have a tough time selling so he dropped the price last week! Good timing! If I do the LS1 its probably gonna cost me around 2k at the worst for parts and labor! Im kind of excited but betweent he cam job and now the motor Im BROKE AS HELL and I know that the tranny is going soon! At least I have the Transgo and servo in! How would my stock stall work out with the LS1?

With that cam and the extra power from the LS1 I think youd be fine without the stall. 2K out the door with a new motor and not having to do anything on your own is pretty good. I would definately NOT spray that thing until you get a good tune!

The thing about the tune is Ive had a Nelson Tune for over a year. I got a new one when I did the Transgo and servo-TM completly removed, I got another update after I did the 4.10's.and finally I just got my newest tune for the cam. The tune didnt cause this problem but I agree a good tune is needed. Anyone have Allen tune a LS1? The shitty thing is I wasnt even spraying last night it was liek 3/4 throttle and it was enought to brake the straw!

You should do the work yourself if your gonna be strapped for cash. That's a lot of cash either way you look at it.

Did this happen before or after ya'll made some changes to the tune?
