i was givin my 4.8 as a graduation gift as well
i didnt even know there was 2 v8s. i think its pretty stupid they even made 2 that were so close power wise anyway. i did notice that they only sell singlecab 4.8s at my dealership now. 4.8 is fast, but u have to have singlecab

Crazy - This is totally off topic but, it kinda relates to what Thunder said about wondering why they even make a 4.8L. Here's another one. Why do they make a 1500HD? What's the difference between it and a 2500HD? Just the configuration(CCSB) is the only thing I can think of. I think they just do it because some people have a mental block about buying a 2500 series truck. Same thing probably goes for the two different motors. I don't understand it.

crazy- your good at bs'ing people so make something up. j/k It sounds like you are better off writing up this guy and just telling his is better so this guy will shut it. i would think it would be pretty close and it would depend on the driver for the most part on this one and such things as gears and such.

I have a 2000 4.8 in my truck. I have 275 hp from factory. I feel that my truck has almost a powerband at around 3200 rpm. It almost feels like a vtech kicking in sometimes. The 5.3 does have better torque and is more aggressive off the line. That i know from gettin spanked on the street from time to time.
The 5.3 will beat the 4.8 in my opinion. I also feel ( again this i my opinion) that the 5.3 is more consistent as well. I don't know about your trucks, but i can not run a consistent number on the top side of the track to save my life. Either it runs like hell or dies on top side....
Just my one cent to the question.........
