Oh yeah, also I think the 99s had 15 less hp and 10 less tq if I remember correctly.

 

Please explain why the little motor would catch the bigger motor,Tell us how less torque creates more acceleration?With that therory a 4.3 should be quicker than the 4.8

 

why compare the weakest 5.3 (i don't know if that is true)made to a 4.8? You must know someone with a 99 5.3. If so, just go race him and get it over with. Let us know the results. I really can't figure any other reason why you would want to know!

 

The difference in torque is only like 5 lb ft and I would think the 4.8 with the bigger cam might pull just a tad more up top. No need to get pissy.

Pissy?I guess it may have sounded that way.Why do you want to compare to the weekest 5.3to your 4.8?(I gathered you were talking stock for stock).I would bet if you took 10 exact trucks like yours and they were all 99 5.3s you would get beat 9 out 0f 10 times.What i dont get is why people buy 4.8 trucks save $1k and then spend $2K to make them run like a 5.3(a bit exagerated)Then the resale is no were near as good as the 5.3 truck so you loose there.The xcabs and the 4x4 are going to be effected even more.Now if the plan was to save the money on a 4.8 to turn around and install a 6.0 or something, i could see that.

 

i know someone with a 99 5.3 who is about as aggrivating as a turd superglued to the bottom of yur shoe. he's constantly raggin' on 4.8s. but its impossible for us to race. so i would like some concrete evidence on why his motor isn't all that superior to mine.

and it wasn't my choice to get the 4.8 it was my parents. the truck was given to me as a graduation present and they felt i didn't need the extra power of the 5.3

i guess i'll have to take Cash's reply since nobody else could provide any actual thoughts on it.
