Default 99 5.3 vs 02 4.8

first off, i know it'll end up this way, but please keep this civil and don't let it turn into an ignorant pissing match. now..

99 is supposed to be the weakest of the years for the LS1 based engines. so i wanna know how a 99 5.3 compares to a 02 4.8. peak numbers, HP/TQ curves, how they would compare in similar setup trucks (both trucks RCSB, auto, 3.73 gears for example). i'm not all that worried about modded vs. modded, just stock vs. stock

Why would you start such a horrble topic. You know its going to get ugly.

Even though the peek power is the same I think that the newer 4.8 is a more agresive motor. Hard to say

It ought to be real close. If I were one of the drivers in that race, I'd pull every ounce of excess weight I could off my truck for the weight advantage.
Got a 99 5.3 that wants to run ya or is this virtual racing?

just trying to figure out which motor is better on paper. i'm hoping people can stay civil. this isn't some of those other sites, we're a generally good group of guys here. so if you can't stay civil stay out my thread.

i know the peak numbers are about the same. i'm wondering about the TQ curves mostly. i know my 4.8 feel like a honda engine until it hits about 2500-3000 RPMs.

comments like this are how pissing matches get started. i know my 4.8 is inferior. but my 4.8 and a 99 5.3 are both rated at 270 HP (torque numbers escape me right now). i'm just trying to figure out the differences in power across the band (not just peak).

1. all things being equal why shouldent the bigger motor win if it has more torque?
2. all motors and trucks are different, some say 99's are weak, from the top of my head i can think of creedarado and his 14.3 sec time with basic bolt ons. thats great. your 4.8 crazy also seems fast for the mods it has, so its a on going topic that will never end.

concentrate on beating r/ts and ford 5.4's. i know i do. oh btw watch out for the altima 3.5's. holy smokes i had on on my **** today from a 25 punch. really suprising.

how much torque difference is there in the two motors?

i'm also wondering if the 99 5.3 has a very broad torque curve starting earlier, whereas the 02 4.8s would come in much later.

I would predict the 5.3 getting the 4.8 out of the hole, with the 4.8 catching up by the 1/8 and then finishing within a tenth of each other.
