years and engine codes play a factor as to the internals and power levels. I don't know the specifics, but early LQ4s had a bit lower compression and powdered metal connecting rods, i think. LQ9s were rated a bit higher on HP and had forged rods, again, I think. Later LQ4s were about equal to all LQ9s ion terms of power and components. Again, I am unsure of the accuracey, but that should give you some direction on where to start searching.

As for the swap, I believe if should be fairly straight forward. Probably going to need the wiring harness / ECM for whatever motor you put in.

Hope this helps.

right, but when talking about the harness, what matters is the year of the motor that you put in. Sensors using different connections and being located in different spots can play hell on the swap. Is that what you were talking about?

thats a question of your budget...not opinion. Do alot of reading. First I would say find and purchase a motor. That way you have something very specific you can ask questions about. It will be easier for you to identify the differences between what you have and what you are installing if the motor is in front of you. personally, 6.0s go for about $1k, 5.3s go for aabout $250. there are some pretty strong running 5.3s out there, plus it leaves a bit more money for mods (cam, P&P heads, etc...)

If you get a 6.0 from 01 to 07 classic, it will bolt right in and all of your accessories and sensors will swap right over. All you'll have to do is have the PCM tuned for the 6.0. You might want to consider upgrading the trans though, as the 6.0 may eat it for lunch. Alot of guys have swapped 6.0's and their 4L60E's have been fine (GMCtrk comes to mind), while others have gotten out of the driveway and down the block and their trans took a dump.

Essentially though, if the trans will hold up, it's as easy as swapping longblocks and having the PCM tuned.
