Friends got a 5.7 that will fire and die when you crank it. If you dump fuel in the TB it will stay running.
I don't know for sure yet if i can scan it. but some of you might know whats wrong.
Injectors maybe?

its a 98. I should be able to scan it tomorrow with EFI Live.
I'm kinda the 3rd party guy so far. My dad and the owner are working on it and calling me for suggestions.
I'ma run out to it tomorrow and have them change the fuel filter. Apparently it had bad gas in it for a while and the filter hasn't been changed. I don't have anything to check the pressure tho.
appreciate the suggestions. anything else i should look for if that checks out?

like hog said just cause fuel is coming out doesnt mean its at enough pressure to run..it should spray out a good 3-5 feet..get some good gas in it..is it settin any codes? tell your dad not to touch the distributor or try to take it out..you dont use a timing light to set that

I'm going to check for codes tomorrow and see the fuel myself. My dad said its coming out really strong. My guess is the gas. I asked how much bad gas was in it before they put more in but he didn't know. so i'll have to look at that as well.
They had injectors on the 5.7 didn't they? If so i'm gonna have them undo one and see if fuel is getting that far.

They actually have 8 individual injectors.

The injector/poppets are inside the intake and cant EASILY be shut off individually.
Spend $30 and get a fuel pressure gauge. The Vortecs wont start under 50 psi as there isnt enough fuel pressure to unseat the poppet valves.
The key indicator here is that the truck starts WHEN FUEL IS POURED INTO THE T_BODY. That emans it has spark and air, it just needs some more fuel.
Fuel pump IMO.
get the fuel gauge, theres a test port on teh fuel rail in the drivers side of the intake.
peace
