Default exhaust 3 or 4"

i'm looking at different exhaust options for my 6.0 2500hd. i'd like to keep it pretty quiet. maybe just a tad loader than stock but give it more rumble and performance and hopefully some mpg. can i get some opinions please

a good friend has a a setup off his 8.1 truck. it has a dual 3" in to a single 4" Y and into a 4" 40 series flowmaster and exits in the stock location. the price is right but i'm thinking it's gonna be loader than i would want. so what i'm thinking was either buy it and try it and if i don't like it look for a quieter 4" muffler to replace the flowmaster, or just go with the magnaflow or flowmaster dual in dual out and run dual pipes out the back.

Magnaflow 22"

I have that on a 6.0

Nice little rumble. Stockish idle.

You don't really need 4" exhaust on a stock 6.0. 3" single is large enough 3" dual is a lil much. I'd just change the muffler. If you put that 8.1 exhaust on it you'll definitely need a tune to compensate. IMO

these trucks have dual exhaust into a dual inlet muffler and dual outlet into a single tailpipe from the factory.

the 8.1 exhaust i'm told are the same as the 6.0.

this exhaust was not intended for the 8.1, the reason for it being a 4" was he was trying to make a 4" mufflex style exhaust for his other truck(408) and after selling the truck he fitted it to his 8.1.

I know they come with Duals. I was talking about the size. Did the HD come with dual 3" or 2.5"?
The only people i know of on here running 4" exhaust either have a Dmax or F/I

It would probably work but it'll be a bit loud i think. My LT's ORY, 3" mid and Borla XR1 are a little quieter at low rpms than the Flowmaster Si/Do was on stock exhaust. Dont know what series it was tho. If you had to you could double up on the mufflers to make it a little quieter. At least with pipe that large it'll have a deep sound.

mine is dual in dual out. right after the dual out they join together to a single pipe. which i would guess is about 3.5"
