Default 4.8 v.s 5.3 or 6.0

I have a 01 silverado with the 4.8 in it. I want to do some mod to my truck but is the 4.8 a good starting point or should I try to find a 5.3 or 6.0?

you could make the 4.8 pretty fast with a cam/stall and tune. but the 6.0 would be alot better starting point and its not too expancive for the swap. i dont think it would be worth it to swap for a 5.3

If you have the tools and room to do the swap it's well worth it, go for the 6.0!

It makes sense in theory to go with a 6.0L, that's what I did. In the end my truck didn't run any faster than a similarly equipped 5.3 truck. Actually my truck ran the exact same times(16.2). I went from a stock 5.3 with bolt-ons to a cammed 6.0L bolt-ons+stall+gears. It felt and sounded faster, but it was pretty slow. My motor was installed and tuned by Nelson Performance, so you can assume it was done right + he suggested the stall and gears to me. If my next truck has a 5.3, I probably wouldn't bother to swap in a 6.0L. That's just my experience.

Something isnt right with your setup if you ran the same time.

i with from a boosted 5.3 to a boosted 6.0 oh boy was that fun..

going from a bone stock 4.8 to 6.0, honestly I didn't notice a HUGE difference like people make it out to be. It cruised a lot better on the highway and went up hills better that's for sure. Probably gained about 50rwhp.

I say start with the tranny, then rear end. Get the tranny built, install a LSD, then go from there...

I would go for a 6.0. Yeah, probably not a whole lot of difference, stock, but start modding and I'm sure there'll be a notiecable difference.
