the swap it self isn't much more than the cost of the engine if you do it yourself... yes you will need to tune the engine to run right.. nelson does a good job from what i hear and he is a sponsor to the right.... now after you get the engine in, then you have to worry about **** breaking constantly... fun stuff... the transmission is almost surly to go and you will need to put a build one in that is going to run you at least $2000, then things like the rear end goes and all that fun drivetraine stuff... but after all that is built up.. you can have fun with it......

so your looking at, around $4000 for engine and trans,,, give or take getting a after market LSD isn't required until it explodes

this is just my opinion and im sure more will chime in at a more normal hour.. but if i was going to swap in an engine it would be the 6.0, if your going through all the trouble why not?? second, you put a s/c on it that will run your around $5000 for an uncooled set up, for the price your better off getting a 6.0 and a built tranny right away, and for that matter put in a stall why the tranny is out... i payed $500 for mine... but on the other side i noticed from your other thread you were from cally, if you want something that will make nice power and pass emissions i would put a s/c on a 4.8.... its really up to you... like many others on here my set up is nowhere near street legal but i drive it everyday well when its not broken any how

are they really that wise tho... the only way to tell the difference between the 4.8 and 6.0 is the casting number on the heads

You can put in a 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L or a 6.0L in any year truck from 1999-2007. Since they are trucks and all had the option of these engines (less the LS1 5.7L, see below), you can swap it in. C.A.R.B. doesn't care about what engines were available with what model specific platform, just that the platform had it as an option. Hell, you could replace you diesel with a 6.0L if you wanted to.

Since the LS1 5.7L is a passenger vehicle engine, it can go into a truck without worry, but a truck engine can not go into a passenger vehicle. FYI, I swapped my LS1 (#5 lost compression) with an LQ4, it was an easy remove and replace swap.

I am in Ca as well, where are you located? I can show you what is needed to swap the 4.8L with a 6.0L, as my truck has a 6.0L. Plus I can help with the tune, since I have HPTuners for all trucks.
