What checkball is that? Perhaps thats the difference here.

I have all 8 blue marked ones. Which did you leave out?

4L80E / Transgo HD2 guys, what did you drill to? - LS1TECH

".108-.125 for the 2nd feed, don't drill 3rd, just leave the checkball out at that location, and .125 for 4th feed."

I honestly couldn't pinpoint which one it is on the above image.

Thanks! From the thread.

"I ended up rebuilding the trans, removing the HD2 separator plate, dual feeding the direct clutches internally and installed one of Jake's plates. It's back to firm shifting again with the new converter and feels great. Leaving the 3rd feed check ball out was the key to getting the 2-3 to feel good. The advice Jake gave you in the 2nd post is golden."

I'm honored to have provided information to an 80e guru

That being said, I did drop the pan on Saturday to do a filter and fluid. Fluid looked good, no metal in the pan, magnet looked normal. I did take the opportunity to follow Jake's advice and I marked my dipstick 1/4" above the pan rail. Turns out my pan was overfilled by a solid 1/2" lol. A new filter, fresh fluid, and lowering the fluid level to what it should be did not help with temps, but strangely my 1-2 shift at low speed is less harsh, feels more normal, and my 2-3 shift even firmer at wot.

Don't spread lies. I know very little!

Good news on your trans!

For the records, it looks like #8 is the one being suggested to leave out.

Slow67 knows his stuff it seems! Is the cup plug added to the case the "I like to block the 3rd accumulator" portion Slow67 talks about?

"I like to block the 3rd accumulator and leave out the 3rd checkball. Still has a controllable 2-3 shift, but still shifts firm at WOT.

When dual feeding 3rd, and drilling the bleed hole, you need a lot more fluid to fill it, and a constant supply (due to the bleed hole).
"

"Yes, #8 checkball."

So you are gonna source a new separator plate and drop the valve body again? Or wait until you do clutches this summer.

Why would I need a new separator plate? (serious question)

I'll do clutches an all other stuff at once this summer or early fall. Gotta get other things done and I want the truck for the stormy months, not the prissy Lexus.

If the plate has been already drilled, if you decide to also leave the checkball out, wouldn't that create an excessively harsh 2-3 shift (if that's even possible).

Thinking back I installed a new stock valve body plate that came with my eBay VB. But good thinking on your part. I wouldn't be worried had I modded it since my high stall absorbs some of the harsh shifts.

Sorry to steal your thread man! Oops!

I've heard there's restrictions in the 3rd gear circuit after the plate. So it wouldn't matter if the plate had been drilled or not, as long as the checkball is left out.
