I like to block the 3rd accumulator and leave out the 3rd checkball. Still has a controllable 2-3 shift, but still shifts firm at WOT.

When dual feeding 3rd, and drilling the bleed hole, you need a lot more fluid to fill it, and a constant supply (due to the bleed hole).

Interesting. I still have the 3rd gear checkball and 2-3 accumulator isn't plugged, but I did put the HD2 spring into the 2-3 accumulator which probably helped minimally.

I assume you mean the #8 checkball for 3rd and not the #11 checkball for 3rd/rev?

I also have noticed that my line pressure in OD3 and OD4 is lower than OD1 and OD2.

So the 3rd accumulator is blocked on top of the housing or in the valvebody?

I feel like it's time to bring this back from the dead. Is it possible to dual feed by using the partial HD2 kit (installed in truck) while not doing steps 4 and 5? and what separator plate should be used with the HD2 kit? seems like there is a lot of jumping around in this thread. Sorry if I am misunderstanding. I will be changing the valve body in my 4l80 to the sonnax updated one with the ALF valve and tcc valve updates (i dont always have 4th). But I have a "partial" HD2 kit installed. WTF do I do now? i dont think i can just drop this new valve body on?

When you say "partial" what do you mean? What's steps have been done already?

And the short answer to your question is no, if you don't do steps 4&5 and use the 3 layer separator plate you HAVE to go internal to do the dual feed.

The "partial" kit is considered installing the kit but not doing any of the internal mods, basically stopping at step 10.

A buddy has done several partial installs per Jakes instructions and talked me into doing the same with mine. Here they are step by step:

But are you looking to dual feed 3rd? You can follow the post above but unless you dig into the trans you won't be dual feeding 3rd.

If not not using step 4-5 and the HD2 separator plate then you have to remove the center seal from the drum, the seal off the center support and plug the hole in the case and use a stock separator plate in order to dual feed.
