what to do

Hello all!.. new to the site.. hope to get some insight . The 60e went out in my 00 2wd hoe. Of course it happens at the worst time and the funds I have are limited. Ive looked on eBay at a Varity of different companies offering "performance built" 60e. I have even looked on cl hoping to find a good deal on a used one.. and a few shops on there offering rebuilt for around 750.. But so far all the research and reading I've done is kinda freaking me out lol.. most the companies offer 9 clutch 3-4...I came across multiple threads that suggest avoiding this set up due to thin steels and heat causing warping.. then there's the Zpac that some companies offer a..which again doesn't sound like a good choice due to failure. That's just some of the topics.. shift kits, what brands to use and not ,springs being used or shouldn't be used..the correct way to install.. it goes on. Given my situation... which is the lack of money to experiment.. I can't try to rebuilding it on my own..wish I could go that route... I thought about doing a 80e swap but I'm concerned that might turn into a whole new problem..
The Tahoe is my DD with plans of a cam/heads and supporting mods in the distant future.. I want to get the best bang for the buck..meaning I don't want to spend 1500 (budget) on a tranny that doesn't have a good combination of parts.. am I over thinking this??

My personal choice would be to find a LOCAL shop that people you know have done business with. This is still an industry full of shady operations so it can be tough to find one that won't hose you. An honest and good transmission man is rare but they're out there.
You want local because if there's any problems you can get it handled easily. Shipping a transmission back to some mail order place, or waiting on them to reimburse you for having someone local fix it if there's a problem, ... good luck
And maybe prices have come down (doubt it) but I'd be a little worried about $750 for a 4L60E build, unless that's cash-and-carry with you doing the R&R. Again I would personally avoid it because if there's any problems it's too easy to blame it on you. "Oh you must not have seated the converter right, you ran it with too little/too much fluid, etc." You want them doing the installation.

I don't know.. I'm also thinking about buying used for now.. found a 06. I know thats a gamble as well but if it would last a year or two then i can figure out a permanent fix.

So far i haven't came across a 80e reasonable price (to me)..i know there out there.. what years would i look for? anyone know if a donor factory drive shaft will work?
I found a trans shop local today.. 1300 for rebuild and they do the removal/install.. 1yr warranty. I have no clue what clutches are used or what gets updated or replaced. I'm waiting for the lady to call me back.. she is checking on cost would be with a few parts i wanted to add

If i came across a newer used 03-06 with around 130k.. and did some improvements..sonnax HP kit, pinless accumulator, 1-2,3-4 servo, 4th servo, and any other valves needed the HP kit doesn't have.. would something like that be a good idea?
