Default weird noise problem can't find source

it doesn't really do it at any given time it just does it and when you think you can reinact it it won't work sometime in four wheel drive but mostly not we thought it was t-case but i don't think so now. its a grrrrrr type noise but not really a grind more of a groan or a snore i guess. i think the u joints are bad too but i don't think its the cause of the noise. they just make a clap when you put it in reverse and drive. the owner says it gallops a little when coasting i couldn't feel it but its not my truck. we put it in four high and turned the wheels and gave it some gas and the cv axles seem fine nothing but the normal turn steering rub noise these things have. but in 2wd drive we went in a circle and it was fine then soon as he started to turn back straight it done it again. but when you do it on purpose it doesn't make the noise. and help guys? please.
the one time we heard it the best was when he was slowing down slowly if that make since we were doing like 20 and he was slowly apply the brake jus normal driveing not doing it on purpose. oh and his abs and brake light are both on but he said his e-brake works and he said it doesn't seem to affect it.

Turning, braking, ABS light. It's your ABS you hear. Any time one wheel almost locks-up while braking such as while turning or while going over a speed bump you'll hear the growl from the ABS as the light comes on.

Edit: If the brakes are bad and one wheel is locking-up before the others that will trigger the ABS. If you are saying the ABS light stays on all the time that may be why.

the abs light are on and the brake light is on all the time the brake light being the one that comes on when you set the e-brake but the e-brake handle is pulled up. the noise isn't just when turning or brake it comes when the hell it wants i guess i don't know if i could explain it better i would know whats wrong with it. the time we heard it loudest was in striaght line but he was slowing down some times when you put it in gear there is a low grind growl noise at the t-case but i don't think its the case i don't freaking know. the main noise he only got it to do once that was slowing down at a slow speed and going striaght my abs goes off all the time when slowing down hard and turning because of my detroit locker and it don't make that loud of noise unless the 99's were louder than the 04's when the abs comes in.

I once had a problem with the vacuum line on the brake booster. The fitting leaked and caused low vacuum. The ABS light would stay on, the brakes felt mushy, and ABS would growl sporatically like you're experiencing. By the way the ABS is loud as hell on my truck and because it's such a low frequency sound you can't pinpoint from where it originates.
