Default Transmission bit the dust?

So I think my transmission went out. When I put it in reverse it makes a loud squealing/grinding type sound. It also does it on the 1-2 shift even if taking it easy. It just started this with no warning, transmission has performed great until this point. Just would like to make sure it's the tranny first before I replace it. And if it is what do you think broke in it?

Same thing happened to mine basically, well for a while it acted like it was in N, but if u creep it up to speed and get it in 3/4 it works fine. 1/2 gear clutches probably went out. Im not expert I just swapped mine for a FLT LVL 6.

But same thing here, It was driving fine whipped a Uturn in the snow and all of a sudden it would barely go. Sorry about your luck.

You may have broken the sunshell. it has to hold for reverse, 2nd gear, and 4th gear.....Does 4th gear do the same?

I haven't tried 4th, I had it towed home once it started making noise.

What year transmissions will interchange with an 03? I'm assuming 99-07 classic will work but would like to make sure first.

Yes you do have a broken or stripped out sunshell. I have seen this many times in my years of building these units. As mentioned above 2nd, 4th and reverse are all effected when this component fails. If you get a 99 transmission just make sure it is for an engine from the ls1 family. Its kind of a split year in some trucks just wanted to give you a heads up. You are correct on the years for what you are looking for. If you have any other questions feel free to ask here or shoot me a pm. Vince

I have resused TC several times. But it all depends on what broke. I would probably reuse yours in this case. I know poeple that say to use dome diesel and swish around in them to try to clean them out, but honestly your really not going to get much out of it. You probably could have it cut and cleaned fairly cheap, or just buy a higher stall for it if you have ever wanted one.

I would look to see the amount of debris in the pan and go from there. Also drain some oil out of the converter and look for metal. If you see any signs of metal have it cut and cleaned or your just rolling the dice at this point. Best of luck. Vince
