i just did this yesterday. you need auto meter part# 2259 and it goes on the drivers side of the transmission right above the shift linkage.

Is your gauge electrical or mechanical? More than likely it's electrical, which means it's only wired in without a hose bringing fluid to the gauge.

It's my understanding that the test ports on the driver's side of the trans aren't the most accurate place to get the trans temp from, and the best bet is to have a fitting welded into the pan. It's better than nothing and a good indication of your trans fluid temp, just not the most accurate.

I'm sure that it works "just fine", only it's not the "most accurate". It'll be accurate enough for most guys, only it's not the most accurate. It is however the easiest, least invasive place to install the sender.

I thought that most guys used the electrical...if the mechanical gauge springs a leak, you'll have a cabin full of ATF...

There was a member that posted a while back, saying he had used the pressure test port for a while, but decided to install it into the pan due to others claiming "unreliable" readings. After moving it to the pan, he said that he always showed the same temps as when it was in the pressure test port.
