Thumbs down Tranny is busted again

Got a loud bang on a WOT 2-3 shift, now I get a gear-whining noise any time the engine is running, any gear or P/N. Tranny will not move the truck at all.

Tranny guys - let the guessing begin. What's the problem?

It's going back into the shop, I'm gonna talk to the guy about giving me a refund and if he'll do it I'm going to the 4L80E no more question about it. I should have done that the first time like everyone said. I wish I could legally get my money back and refuse to let him work on the truck, but it's under warranty and I don't have a choice if that's what he wants to do, and I can't afford to pay for another tranny again. Grrrr.

5 rebuilds in 18 months confirmed that the 80E was the only option for me. Mine was under warranty as well and eventually the shop decided the 90e was the way to go.

At first, I was breaking hard parts on the shifts. They made some adjustment to soften things up, then I started breaking soft parts. The final straw was a slipping shift from the 2-3 shift.

Here is what one of my output shafts looked like on a 1-2 shift...

Sounds like you definatley broke some hard parts. That's pretty hard to believe considering you've got a pretty built tranny there. What he said he put in and what he actually put in might be two different things though. Especially since he had such a hard time trying to get all those aftermarket parts to jive.

I feel for you man. I'm sorry. 80E it is.

If it were only 2wd, I'd put a T56 in it for you. Then you can have shitty 60ft's.

I would say pump, or input shaft, or output shaft. But Im no tranny guy, all I can do is blow them 6 in 4 or 5 months

No crank pin yet, haven't looked in the port cover. I'll let Ken deal with it. Will update again after we figure out what's wrong - thanks for the ideas everyone. I'm thinking it's the input shaft/pump, the gear noise is coming from the front of the trans by the converter. I'm going to suggest to him that he buy me the conversion kit and a 4L80E, because I think it will be cheaper than the billable hours he will put into rebuilding this one again and again. We'll see what happens.

Chris, your truck can't play with mine any more. I don't want it picking up your trucks bad habits
