I am looking for some advice on adding some towing help for the rear end of my wife's 2006 ECSB Silverado Z71. We have a 16' Aluminum 3/4 Horse Combo trailer. I believe the towing capacity of the truck is about 7500#, the trailer weighs in about 3000#, and 1 horse is about 1000, the other 2 are about 1300. The truck pulls the trailer fine, and pulls it fine with 2 horses loaded, but when all three are in, it squats the rear end pretty good, and puts the trailer and truck in a bit of a bind. Like I said, the truck pulls the trailer fine, even with all three horses in it, but I don't want to put any undue stress on the rear than I have to.

Looking for advice on what would be the best to add to the rear to help out and raise the towing rating some. She would prefer not to lift the truck any really, minimal at best. We are planning on upgrading to a 3/4 ton as soon as the end of the year to sometime next year, but until then would like to make due with what we have.

 

I'd put on some load helper bags. I did it on mine and it helped out a lot.

I tow a Ski Sanger Tournament boat.The boat,engine and Trailer weight total about 3800lbs.I put on Air lift 2600lbs Helper Bags.They have worked Great.Hope this helps.

 

If it's a bumper pull, then I would use a weight distribution hitch like this-

It will distribute the weight MUCH better on all 4 wheels of the truck and ride MUCH better.


If it's a goose neck then helper air bags would work great.

 

Those distribution hitches work awesome, i pull a 5500lb mud truck with my 4 wheeler and tools etc with my half ton, i know its what some say too much but it pulls great, without it im on the bump stops hard, with it it barely squats at all.

 

+1 on the helper airbags.

My uncle uses them on his dually, and its always loaded for bear.

 

Weight distribution. If that doesn't do the trick, then get the helper bags.

 

I can vouch for these Firestone kits. I used to put these on snow plow 2500's and 3500's that usually have 1500lbs or so in sand and salt loaded in the bed. They are top notch and can really take a beating. Try to stay away from the "sport ride" bags, they leak in the winter time.
