Torsion bar mod to level front end
#1
hey guys i am new to the truck world but definatly not LS performance. I have a RCSB 05 silverado 4X4. The truck has a very noticable rake to it and i want to lift the front to level it out some. First of all is there any practical reason they come with such a rake from GM? I was intersted in buying a leveling kit, but I was told i could crank the torsion bars up to get it close. How would I go about doing that? Will this change the Geometry of my suspension in such a way to make the tires wear faster or oddly? Would doing this change the driving attitude of the truck?
As I said i am new to these trucks so pictures and detailed instructions will definatly help me out alot!
thanks alot
mike
Oh and I did search but apparently my search-fu is broken haha

you need a 1/2 inch drive 18mm socket and rachet and a tape measure go under the truck and yull see two bars that go from the front of the lower control arms to the middle of the truck there is two bolts there turn them till the truck looks some what level then use the tape measure to adjust the height of the front of the truck dont turn them up all the way cause then your wheels will be positve camber and yell have to get a front alignment

^ what he said......i believe i turned mine until they could have maybe done 1 turn or 1.5 before the bolt would be out of threads....gained like 1.75" of front lift at first, then drove around and a few weeks later and they settled to only like .8-.9" of front lift haha but looks better even with that little amount.

I'd take the lift blocks out the rear and put some drop shackles on the rear, but that's just me. All these trucks have a rake, and I believe they set it up so like that so the bed isn't sagging down with it fully loaded.

just remember to jack up the truck when doing this...it really makes it easier for you to crank on the bolt and keep track of how many turns you put on it...
