Default Th400 swap info/advice?

I was wondering if anybody had any info on th400 swaps into our trucks. I kinda got a good idea in mind of the fab work im going to have to do as far as making a tranny crossmember, and having some creative work to do with shifters. I guess my main question would be with the flywheel differences, i have a 5.3 in the truck right now but i plan on swapping a 6.0 in later and i know the 4L80E on a 5.3 needs a spacer for the flywheel so obviously theres something different with the 6.0. I tried doing a search but couldn't find crap, i guess the th400 swap isnt that popular with the truck guys.

Im planning on swapping in a built th400 with a Atlas II transfer case to go with my solid axel conversion i'll be doing in 2 years when the trucks payed off. I don't think the auto-trac would fair too well with 15" of lift and 42" IROK's, and i doubt im going to be able to find a Ford Dana 60 hi pinion reasonably priced, so im going to have to settle for a passenger side drop GM Dana 60. The atlas t-case will kinda kill two birds with one stone.

So i suppose my real question would probably be what differences am i going to run into with the 6.0 mounting up to the th400, if any? I know the swap on the 5.3 should be the same because its basically identical to the LS1 and theres plenty of info on that over in the f-body section. I guess im just a little clouded on the need for a spacer when using a 4L80E on a 5.3 and not on a 6.0. Is the crank thicker on the flywheel mounting surface or something?

Well I have a 6.0L block and a th400, i used the flywheel that is called for with the 4l80 conversion, and i think i used the spacer aswell but i cant be for sure. A 4L80 is basically a TH400 w/o overdrive, so i would think you would use the spacer but i just cant remember. Sorry I wasnt too much help. But your Z71 sounds alot like mine, do you have any pictures of it???

You have to use the spacer on 01+ 6.0L's as well as the any other GEN III. The 99-00 iron-head 6.0L's had a different crank to mate up to the 80-e, newer model 6.0L's use the same style crank as the rest of the GEN III engines.

I'm not sure what exactly is necessary for the TH400 swap, but it should be the same for a 01+ aluminum head 6.0L as the 5.7 LS1.

lol, were almost twinkies.....nice looking rig though! Hey, are those the WARN fender flares? I been trying to find good pics of a stepside with WARN's because there the only company that makes flares for stepsides to my knowledge. I figured they only came out about an inch like those whimpy slimline bushwackers, but they actually look pretty decent on your truck. I got to do something because rock's and gravels are reaking hell on my paint, not to mention im tired of gettin freakin mud goobers on the top of my truck from just going down a wet dirt road.

BTW the 37" PJ's rock if your looking for 37's, they ride ALOT better than my 35" BFG's did and there really not all that noisey. I didn't even get them balanced and they ride better than my BFG's i had balanced. If you go to a Cooper Tire store, they can order them out of a place in South/North Carolina and you can get them a hell of alot cheaper than 4wheelparts.com has them for. I got my set of 4 for $1100.
