I looked at the truck and it actually says on the hitch 12,000 with weight distribution, and I still have the original window sticker for it and it says...

in the optional equipment

silverado performance edition
6.0 high output engine
4 speed heavy duty automatic transmission
heavy duty oil cooling
high performance suspension
HD trailering equipment
locking rear differential
3.73 rear axle ratio

and the GVW was 6204.

Could it be a 4l65?

I know the the 60E isnt exactly the best tranny by any measure, but is the 65E any beefier than the 60E or do they both poop out when put under stress? It's stock to my knowledge and Id like to do a few mods to it to make it stronger, what would you recommend?

M30 M32 M33 is 4l60/5
MN8 or MT1 is 4l80

65 just has one more pinion gear for 5
Otherwise the difference is neglible. Don't even remove torque management, these trannies in stock form are not made for abuse.

Basic shift kit and hd tranny cooler can help you out some.
2-4 band, 3-4 clutch pack, and sunshell are probably the most common failures.

Regular Production Order or Regular Production Option ,ive heard both, basically every option on yer truck from color to seats to engine tranny gears ,everything has a code, that GM uses to build a vehicle in the glove box like stated thats a list, normally 1 letter and 2 numbers

example G80 is the locking diff, and the M codes are used for the transmission

I checked the RPO, it says M32, so I assume its the 4l65. They say that the trucks rated to tow 11,500 with weight distribution, is that really the case? thats a crapload of weight for a 1500 frame.
