Default 80E converter dillema

Well I've got a '03 4L80E trans that's basically ready to go in, along with a stock converter. I've planned on ordering a custom built Edge converter for this project all along though.

My question is, do I put it together with the stocker so I have good info going into the new converter build or do I go ahead and order what I want now and put it in and possibly deal with an adjustment later.I'm just worried that after driving 3200-3600 9" 60E converters for the past sevral years that it'll feel sluggish and lazy with that massive stocker and my low compression motor.

Please, don't ask "why Edge" or "why not xxxx converter" this is the one I'm using I'd like to keep the thread on topic and not come down to a brand battle like these usually do...

Stocker...
you will like it more than you think. I can stall it up to 3100 on 8# boost.
Even tho i would like a smaller converter with less weight and slightly looser for a better shift extension. its hard to beat the stocker. plus its stupid strong.
Im gettin an Edge one day too Just goin to be awhile. Prolly gonna go with a FLT LVL2 4L80E also. the stock 80E is goin in my dodge project so its still Driveable with OD and plenty strong for a few HP over stock 4.8

I'd say go with the Edge given the nature of your setup. But KB Racing's experience with Edge concerns me. With your power levels it may be hard to get the stall right where you want it I would imagine. I'll probably just go with the stock stall myself, but I'm still debating getting a Circle D

Going from a 9" converter with a 60E 3.06 1st gear to a stock 12+" 80E converter with a 2.48 first gear is going to make your truck feel like a terd. I say get the converter and be done with it.

With a turbo, I'd go stocker. It will drive very well around town and brake boost to 3000+ RPM.

I'd give the stocker a shot. You might like it.

I like your thinking on using the stocker to get a feel for what exactly you want out of it. Kinda gives you a baseline to start with and then improve on from there.
