Something starting to go out, ideas?

I've had some small grinding or popping noises lately when I leave a stop light and start to accelerate normally. Now it has become a constant sound when pulling up to a stop light and sitting there but doesn't happen all the time.
This morning I had the chance to pull over when it was happening and try to pinpoint it a bit better. While in park I can't really hear but maybe a single pop sound every minutre or so and I can't see or hear anywhere in the engine bay. However if I put the truck in drive with the emergency brake set I can start to hear the pop. Turn the wheel to the left and it gets even worse.
From inside the truck I can somewhat feel the pop in the floorboard under my feet and outside the truck I can hear it directly under the cab and to the rear of the truck.
Any ideas what it might be? If I am in drive but the wheels aren't turning the only thing rotating is the engine, torque convertor, and maybe the trans pump? Anything else?
This is a AWD truck with the 6L80 and maybe somewhere around 550 or 600 hp at the crank. Just trying to get a better idea on what it could be in order to pick the shop I drop it off at.

I think Chris is definitely onto something. I remember a thread where a guy though he had something very wrong because it sounded like it was coming from the bottom end of the motor, this is exactly what it ended up being.
