Default Regular Cab Short Bed 2/4 Drop Questions

Just installed my 2/4 drop kit and I got a few questions.

First off I have Mcgaughys drop spindles, shackles and Belltech hangers. I am running silverado SS wheels with stock size tires (275-55-20).

After the drop it looks like my pinion angle is pointing a little upward. There is a vibration during hard acceleration so I am taking it easy until I get my shims (tomorrow) Did anyone else have to install shims with a 2/4 drop? If so what degree shims did you install? I am getting 2 degree shims but I am thinking I might even need 4 degree shims. I will install the 2 degree shims and see what happens before trying the 4. I also plan on installing some traction bars to help combat axle wrap.

Anyone running this or a similar setup? I did a search and didn't come up with anything too conclusive. Any help/criticism or suggestions on future upgrades would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a few pics of the truck as it sits now.......

I have a 2/4 on my RCSB 2wd and I had to do 8* shims to get mine to -4 to -3 pinion angle

Wow 8 degrees? Is that common? If I have the traction bars could I aim for a 1-2 degree pinion angle?

I know blackgmc had to use 8* shims and he has a 2/4 I also pulled my overload leaf so that might have something to do with it

Get an angle finder, then you will know exactly what you need

So the angle finder is showing me the following.....

The trans tail shaft is pointing downward (towards the rear of the vehicle) .5 to 1 degree

The driveline seems to be flat or maybe pointing upward (towards the pinion) .5 degree

The pinion is pointing upward 4-5 degrees (towards the front of the vehicle)

Let me know if these angles need clarification

My buddy has a set of 6 degree shims but I am thinking that I will need a set of 8 degree shims based on the angles that I found and what everyone else is telling me.

Anyone else?

I'd get the rear end down to -0.5 to -1 then. Looks like a 4 or 6 degree shim should do it

Thanks, it's just Dupli-color trim paint that I got from autozone (PN TP70). I just scuffed the **** out of the grille with scotch-brite then laid down 2-3 good coats of adhesion promoter and then 4 or 5 coats of the trim paint.

Used the same thing on my center caps too

Where is the best place to buy axle shims? I have heard that the aluminum ones and the cast ones tend to break. Not sure how true that is.
