Talking Questions about rack and pinion

I have a 2002 2wd ext cab 5.3L auto, and just found today that the left front inner tie rod is leaking, or at least the theres grease all over the outside of the boot and before i found this out, going over speed bumps or any bumps really, there was an high pitch squeak that is coming from this area and has any one, had this happened or experience this? at first i thought it had to do with the left front brake caliper, but i checked it and its fine! well anyway, I'll have to look more into it and any help would be great!

Thanks to all..................

I'm getting ready to replace my rack-n-pinion after attempting to replace my inner tie-rod. Once I removed the inner boot clamp off the driver side of my R&P it had quite a bit of fluid inside. I would say if you remove the boot clamp on the drivers side and you have fluid inside the R&P boot it is a good time to start looking for a new unit. The reason why I say drivers side is because most seem to fail on the drivers side first. If it's dry just replace the inner tie-rods with new ones.

How much play should be in the inner tie rod? How difficult is it to replace?
