Default Pulling front Drive Shaft???

Very "newbie" question...I am not up to speed on the inner workings of the AWD system...so please bear with me if the questions sound crazy.

1. can it be done and still driven?
if not...what if some type of retainer cap was installed on the output yoke
from the TCase and the same cap on the input to the front diff?
Would this creat a balance issue?

2. Would doing that stop the front diff from turning and creating friction?
3. Would that help gas milage?

I am not unhappy with the truck, in fact, I love it. I am just exploring my options.

Thanks guys.

It would do nothing for gas mileage. The front wheels are locked all the time. So the front CV will still spin! The don't have hubs to unlock them. And any way of converting them would be expensive. And you won't gain any milage I would think anyway.

You best bet is to reduce you over all weight and keep ypu foot out of it!

Yes, you can pull the front DS if you really wanted to. You would not have to cap anything off.

2. Would doing that stop the front diff from turning and creating friction?
No

3. Would that help gas milage?
No

Not in an SSS. The NVG149 transfer case has a viscous coupler instead of gears or chains. Pulling the front drive shaft will burn up the coupler (how long you can get away with it is a matter of debate, some have done it to dyno and survived and some burned the coupler on the first pull).

do not do it, it is not worth the risk, you will burn up the AWD viscous coupler like was mentioned above
