Default PB lvl3 4l65e (4x4) questions

has anyone broke a lvl3 4x4 ? im lookin to do a 4x4 conversion and i have the opportunity to get a lvl3 65e 4x4 with a billet converter. i know its not an almighty 4l80e ..... how long you think it would last in my truck possibly in the 550-600rwhp range?

as for gears... what should i be running with a hair dryer launchin on 4x4... 3.42's .... or 3.73? hmmmmmm

any opinions will be greatly appreciated

There is a thread here recentlly on a PB tranny that broke a in or output shaft cannt remember now. PB trannies are 4L60E unless you ask for a 4L65E which brings hardened in and output shafts along with other upgraded parts. With that much HP you will brake a 4L60E of any level from PB. Look into a FLT 4L65E or a 80E.

You really should do your home work, The level 1-2 of PB trannies use the stock input and 4 pinion planets which is what GM considers a 4l60, but their level 3 has the hardened input, beast sun shell and GM 5 pinion planets which is the what GM changed to in the 4l65e .

The other thread in which you are referring to was only a level 2 PB tranny,

http://performabuilt.com/level-3.html

2ktransam has been running a PB level 3 4l65e in his 6l turboed ecsb 4x4 into the 11's

LVL3 does not use hardened in or output shafts. Unless they told you this, it is not mentioned on their site. I am not putting PB down, its just like I sayed on that thread I dont want to buy a tranny that doesnt have atleast hardened shafts.

The shafts are hardened, but not BILLET, like the new Level 7 from FLT, but that's why the FLT is a lot more more money. Like i said, you should do your home work and call them.

You gunna keep the truck the same height? Gearing will depend on you tires size as you know. If your running around a 29" tire with a hair dryer I would say 3.42s

I did do my homework. If you read that thread that you post it says that I talked to PB and they told me that they had never had a failure of the 4L60E shafts, which are not hardened and thats why dont use them. They also told me that if I have a 4L65E that I would need to send mines in for rebuilt because if I ordered one I would get a 4L60E w/o hardened shafts and the 5 pinion planets.
