I'm working on a 93 chev and I think the converter is locked up and wont unlock no power in forward gears but seems fine in reverse .I havent scanned it yet to see if its locked . But if it is is there a way to unlock it so its eliminated all together? Got it scanned now and it has a code 81 shift seliniod circuit B.

With the solenoid code your getting you are probably starting out in a limp mode condition which would be 3rd gear if I had to guess. You will have to change the shift solenoid or find the issue with the wiring for it. HTH Vince

I tested for power at trans plug on E and it was good and had grd on B. I could'nt do the seliniod test with the snap-on scanner truck is to old and computer dos'nt have the capability I guess. Anyway I watched the data and shifted thruogh the gears and the actual gear displayed was always 3rd unless you put it to low and then it would read 2nd. It would take off easier when pulled down to low. The 1-2 seliniod display never changed from off to on the 2-3 would change from off to on. So is it the 1-2 seliniod thats bad or internal wiring ? And the P R N 4 3 2 1 always changed on the scanner. Are the seliniods the same.

I would have to think that the issue is just a solenoid and yes both shift solenoids are the same. I would recommend using an oem solenoid like delco. You might want to read into diagnosing this code a little further to see what the actual diagnosis procedure is. The part that is weird to me is that it reads 2nd gear in manual low. That almost tells me there is an issue with a prndl switch or the manifold pressure switch. However in 93 I do not think that there was a prndl switch on the trans. I'll try to look into it when I have some time. If I come with something I'll Let you know.

Hey Vince would it be the 1-2 or the 2-3 seliniod.

The B solenoid is the same as the 2-3. Just worded differently depending on the source of information.

Got it fixed today. Droped the pan and remove the 1-2 seliniod and replaced with new one and then tested the one I removed seemed to work fine. So I removed the 2-3 and tested it and it was weaker sounding and had a large amp draw and could see a small arc in it and a little smoke,so I put the 1-2 back in its place and trans works fine now. Thanks for the help Vince .
