Default junk yard rear end

Well I found a place that has a lot of wrecked GM trucks and SUVs and I was wonting to get a posi rear and with at least 3.73 or 4.10 gears. I have a 02 model silverado and have disk brakes. So I won't to know what all vehicles to ask the guy to check for and what codes they have to check the rear end for what I need. Most likly the gears I won't will be in a 4x4 huh?

4X4's usually cam with the better gears.

I have 3.23's in my base 2x4 WT. Where as a base 4x4 gets 3.73's. Plus my wife and though about a 4x4 for some fun, and my re-search found all most all 4x4's in my area in the NNBS model came with 4.11's. Plus most had posi's in them.

im mainly lookin for something that will be a direct fit with no issues with brakes and whatever else.. think something like a 99-02 silverado z71 will have what i need? or is there any denali or tahoe that came with 4.10 gear ratio in the years that had disk brakes.?

base 4x4's came with 3.42's unless they got an upgrade to 3.73's, z71's got 3.73's a z71 rear end would be a direct swap, as long as you get one that has the disk brakes, the later models have drums. as for a denali or tahoe and avalanches rear end fitting, they are a 5 link setup with trailing arms and coil spring rear suspension, not leaf springs, so definitely not a direct swap.

just curious, i have an extended cab 06 with a 5' 8" bed and its super light and noticably quicker then 6' 6" extended cabs, and i was wondering if i should go for 4.10s or would that kill my mileage too much? what kinda mpg you guys getting with those?

Mileage in town is same or better. On the highway I lost a bit, especially if I cruise at 75 mph. I got 17.8 @ 75 w/4.10s

410s would really help it out in town, like GMCtrk said you will loose some on the highway, but just keep it down around 70 and ur set.
