Default How much did your 4l80 swap cost?

Looking to get average prices on what it costs to do an 80 swap.

By my math I think it can be done for under 2k, but maybe I am wrong.

Who's done it the cheapest?

You can do it for under 2k, but there are alot of variable to cost. Converter, trans condition ( Stock, Stock with Shift kit, mild build, full build etc.)

Finding a good core is a start, and just doing a shift kit is cheap if you have a known good trans. Depends what you want out of it. You can fab a crossmember or buy one, changing the wiring is basically free and then a tune. Assuming you are 4wd you will need to shorten rear driveshaft and get a longer front. My front was out of a Dmax truck. I have the Part # if you need it. If using a stock converter that saves you alot, but a good converter can also eat up half your 2k goal.

The major variable in pricing will be the converter. If you are going to use a stock converter, you can get by easily under 2k. My swap was $1775 if I'm adding up correctly including a $900 Yank. My current setup was a bit over 5k.

Looking back, I'm not really sure I'd do a stock/junkyard trans again. It's a gamble. Most of the time everything is fine (as was in my case) but if you get a bad trans you're out the cost.

You're gonna need to be more specific on what you want

I still need a driveshaft, Trans lines, and whatever else pops up when it gets installed. Trans, converter, flywheel, and crossmember puts me over 5k.

A said to be good 4l80e should go for around $600. Using all stock parts, I'd agree with the 2k estimate posted above.

My thought was

rebuilt junkyard trans off ebay w/ shift kit - 1100
autotrac input shaft - 200
converter - 600
whatever else - 100
wiring/cross member done myself - free

I neglected to consider driveshafts, so by my numbers I'd already be over 2k.

I'm 4wd with an autotrac.

I've also considered looking locally for a non-rebuilt junkyard trans and doing a shift kit myself.

Just kinda tossing these ideas around in my head, because I feel a trans is inevitable.

I'm looking at getting a strange driveshaft, once I get a good measurement. Including the 1350 yoke, I think I saw ~ $500. But that was for 2wd reg cab.

So I'd be ready to spend $3k with a few hundred in reserve.

I got tired of dealing with used stuff. I got fkd over buying a "rebuildable" 4l80e. Just not going to deal with used stuff anymore.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the input shaft. Just be glad you don't have all-wheel-drive like I do, that input shaft was expensive.

Mine was under 2k.....until yesterday I spent 1300 on a damn converter lol. All depends on what your finished goal is.

I really thought about going your route with the TVS2300 because I had one on my G8 GXP. Did you have to swap to rectangular heads or did you use a different adapter plate for the TVS? Where did you get the input shaft and how does the truck run with the AWD? (I have almost same vehicle, here).

I'd love to see some pics of that beauty!
