A duramax is a much heavier engine and truck than the typical 1500 truck. I dont usually recommend coilover swaps for them because of the weight, and with more weight you need more shock in the form of dampening power. There are shocks than can get stiff enough to work, but they wont be the normal street/strip shocks. I deal mainly with Viking shocks, so for that it would be their Crusader line with very stiff rebound valving. The bad thing about a strap is it is a hard stop, which results in jarring and shaking the tires loose. The back is always important or you end up with that bucking you mentioned.
The idea is you control the movement with the shocks so nothing bottoms/tops out and hits a stop and disrupts the tire doing its thing.

Atomic, you think your setup can control my truck with its 3 1/2" lift and 700+ whp? I have been thinking about your coil overs everyday for months. I just wasn't sure how go about strapping up the front end with them. You just blew that out the window.

With my 05 LLY I never had any luck with double adjustable shocks. With the rebound all the way up on the front shocks they never seemed to make any difference in keeping it under control on a boosted launch, it would still just hit that certain boost level that would cause bucking and side to side bucking as well.
I guess maybe I just didn't have good enough shocks or had something else wrong as it seems like it should work, although I am not sure if it can load it long enough to eventually allow enough upward travel, I would doubt that though.
Coilovers I am sure would be very nice, I am just worried to invest all the money into them but then end up with no results. I wish there was just something easy I could do to limit the travel just to test and see what effect it has, maybe like taking the stock strut off and welding like a stopper or something on it. Although I am sure if you aren't careful, you could create a stiff spring back in the system doing that and wouldn't have any additional damping to stop it. I guess with straps you kind of add an additional spring in the system with not much damping in the synthetic woven strap, but then it should be more like a mechanical diode.

Yep, would be just fine, actually easier since it's a longer shock. As long this is a 1500 and not a 2500.
