help brakes very weak after upgrades
#1
hey guys if you follow my post i recently upgraded my 2001 gmc sierra 1500 2wd,installed rough country 3"lift kit along with 18x9" moto metal wheels and 265/70/18(33") hankook tires before on the stock wheels and tires my brakes were good strong, now after the upgrade normal driving conditions it stops fine but in a emergency or a traffic light go red it gets scary i could barley stop the truck in time, advice please options?opions?i am changing the line to steel braided soon and maybe adding tahoe 2 pistons rear calipers

My advice: don't drive like you still have stock wheels and tires. That's part of getting big wheels and tires, you lose braking power since your brakes now have a lower mechanical advantage. You can upgrade to the newer 13" front rotors and calipers or go with a big brake kit. Hydroboost would help as well.
edit- I am assuming you have serviced your brakes and they are tip top shape. If not, change brake fluid and lines first then consider the upgrades.

Looks like you might be in need of some brake upgrades.
My truck came with a 275/70/R16 tire.(If I remember correctly) When I upgraded to my 20's (285/50/R20) brakes were terrible. When I upgraded to braided lines I noticed a big difference in pedal feel which gave me some confidence back in stopping but not much else. The biggest difference was when I did the hydroboost conversion. If you haven't looked into it you should check it out. Its one of my favorite upgrades. Going fast is fun but stopping safely is really important. I too had some pucker moments before I started paying more attention to brakes. Hope this was some helpful advice, its been a while since I had the chance to log on.

The brakes for the front are for a 2005 and newer I believe. (again it's been a while since I was on here.) you will need the rotor and brackets for the caliper. I think you can buy the brackets separate at any parts store, if not they will come with a loaded caliper option from autozone or whom ever you use. Lots of people have used this upgrade. The rear dual piston caliper can come off of a Tahoe or a suburban, escalade or other full size suv. As for the thicker rotor I think autozone classifies them as a "superduty" rotor for the mentioned suv's above. (no relation to ford. Its just what they call their heavy duty rotors) hope this was helpful.

Have your EBCM reprogrammed for the new tire size. Then preform the automated brake bleed procedure.
Can be done with the OEM scan tool or equivalent like Snap on.
It will make a noticeable difference. If you're still unhappy then start the upgrades.
I just did this on a friends truck to correct for factory 20's he put on and it made a world of difference.

Are the front calipers actually different? Mine are pretty new and powder coated. Can i use the GMT900 13" rotor n new caliper brackets and my gmt800 calipers? or is there a difference in the diameter of the pistons inside the calipers which make it also an upgrade?
