is this a good trans cooler
#21
I live up north, and run my lines through the radiator, then the return goes through the cooler, and back to the trans. One benefit of doing it this way is consistent trans temps, for what that's worth. I think that a trans that runs at more consistent temps will perform more consistently also, this is just my .02 though.

I put the trucool max40k on mine and haven't had a problem yet. I left my radiator hooked up like stock because I thought the same thing about it being too cold. I drive about an hour to work and its all freeway and my trans gauge never moves up at all, its cold even going through the radiator. Sitting idling with it in park though it gets up to ~150 but it goes right back down once moving. I also have a toy hauler that weighs ~7k lb. and when I run up the grapevine, i5 south to la from Bakersfield which is about a 6% grade, I put it in second gear and keep it at 60 mph and my temp guage barely got above 150, and its a long pull.

no need for fans on the trans cooler.
My tranny guy used to want my temps around 180*. Heat kills trannies but there built for it, as well as the fluid is made to operate somewhere in that range.
