Default Going to 4.10 Gears

Someone told me the other day that going to 4.10 from my 3.42 gears would feel like I lost low end torque, is that true? I think it would be the opposite. My truck is stock right now but plan on getting a supercharger eventually. Should i still go to 4.10's? My tires are 30.4" tall.

hahaha they either are clueless or joking and you don't know it. 4.10's will give your truck alot better punch off the line compared to the 3.42's.

I swapped from 3.42 to 4.10 in my 99 Z28. It makes a huge difference. You'll need to get your computer retuned, after that you'll love'em.

If you are serious about adding a supercharger later then 4:10 gears may not be your best bang for your buck. Supercharges are known for their low end torque and you may not really need to re-gear. That way you get better gas mileage and low end grunt when you need it.

Well in that case....get them in there. You will want to tune for them so that you speedo is correct and your PCM functions properly. You may also want to tune your shift speeds and TCC settings a little to suit your driving preferences.

Yea I was thinking of getting a Black Bear mail order tunne, heard good things about them. Just kinda hoping mileage isn't to bad on highway, not that I do much of it.

Night and day. I just did this same swap, and it's a HUGE improvement on the low end of the truck.

But like Mort said, 4.10's might not be the best gears for a SC set-up.

Your mileage around town might actually improve if you are easy on the gas because the truck will accelerate with less torque input. If you don't do too much hi-way your average mileage may not change too much. Some people actually get better mileage but it depends on driving conditions and habits.
