10 bolt narrow/build
#1
I am going to pick up a spare 10 bolt to have narrowed and built. My truck is a 2006 silverado 4x4. Were the differentials the same width 03-06 trucks for 2wd and 4wd, or was one wider?
I am wanting to go from my 3.42 gears to 4.10. Should I just run GM gears or are the motive "performance" gears stronger? I have heard the Richmond gear sets tend to make noise so I'd like to stay away from those.
The plan is narrow 2", moser hardened axles, tru trac, 4.10 gears and a girdle diff cover. Anyone have any other recommendations? Truck is a street truck and all wheel drive. I don't really have plans ever to run anything stickier than a good street tire and it won't be seeing the track. I am also about to ditch the 246 transfer case for a nvg149, and at the same time install a front diff from a silverado SS. Does anyone know for sure if they came with 4.10s and not 4.11s? Thanks for any help.

I can comment on rear diff.
You are building what I have, except mine was 5" overall cut. I have Yukon Gears, They make some noise, but the whole trucks a bit of a noise maker so I don't mind. I dont drag race my truck, but I do beat the hell out of it when i drive it
Diffs are the same width

Damn that looks nice! Yeah mine will be 4" total, forgot to put 2" each side. You running 4.10s? Have you done the 4l80e swap? After I did was when I realized how much I hate the 3.42s lol.

My Trucl has 4.10s. My truck had a flt level 7 4l65e in it(now in my tvs1900 ccsb), now it had a RPM level 6 T56 magnum. It has the higher cut gear set, so its gear much better then a standard t56.
IVe been so happy with my FLT 4l65e, I see no reason for 4l80e. But alot of guys will argue.
I actually use Duplicolor truck bed liner. Its textured, washable, and has a beauty finish.

2wd and 4wd 99-07 classic are the same width.
Only difference is the clocking of the brake flange between disc (99-04 all trucks, 05 AWD SS) and drums (05-07 classic).
Early housings like 99-00 also had a drain plug in the casting so you did not need to remove the cover to drain the gear oil.
