Default FU$% 4l60s lol, time for 4l80 swap

Well the 4l60e gave out after 2000 miles on the new motor setup, didn't get to have fun with it really lol. Only 39k on trans with two full syn trans flushes! Second gears just slips so i've been driving around first to third style lol, pain in the ***! Picked up a 09 2500 work van 4l80e with 20k on it for 250.00. Having the trans shop do alto red eagles, overdrive blue plate specials, transgo HD-2 shift kit, carbon fiber bands, 34 element sprag, 4l85e input shaft and a mag-tech deep finned pan. Hopefully that will hold for a while? Don't know to much about transmissions though? What do you guys think?

I would have it checked to make sure everything is good first, if everything looks and runs good than I would just add a Transgo HD2 kit and save the money on a fully built trans down the road. A lot of forum members have went that route with no issues on high hp projects. Just my own opinion.

Would a 09 G van not have a 4L85E? IIRC the 4L85E has straight cut planetary gears and whines much like an Allison does. OSU Okmulgee had a couple of 06 maybe 07 G van/Express vans when I was there and we took them on a trip to Dallas. They both had 6 liters and had to have been 4L85E's because they whined so sweet from about 3000 on. It was like a super charger whine almost.

But what Low_LSX said. To each his own but generally all thats needed is a shift kit providing the transmission is in good condition. Mine had 130k on it and a LOT of trash in the pan but the fluid otherwise looked pretty good and I could see all the clutches but the direct clutch when I had the valve body off and they looked like new yet. I put a shift kit in it and its been working flawlessly. But, piece of mind knowing you have a bomb proof tranny is good too.

you had 2 trans flushes done on the 60e? Flushes can do more damage than good

What is general et difference between the two transmissions, 4l60e vs 4l80e. I am looking into doing a 4l80e swap in my truck.
