Default Front shock install help!

I'm working on installing Bilstein HD shocks on the front of the 2005 Silverado Z71 Ext cab and I have run into a possible problem. The mounting hardware that came with the new shocks is different. My old ones have a insert in the middle of the bushings that helps fill the hole of the top mount.

Am I supposed to use my original bushings and plats on the top of the shock?

you mean like a sleeve on the inside of the bushings? you think the hole is too large you're saying? you shouldnt have to use your original bushings tho.

You won't use the sleeve in your new bushings. If you look at the bushings, one side of each bushing will be smooth, the other side of the bushing will have a "step". The "step" will center the bushing in the frames hole.

Hope that helps!

Yup, that's it guys. I didn't notice that at first.

I do have another dumb question though. How are you supposed torque the top nut down without the rod spinning??

3/8" air impact gun.

Or, there is is a socket made that holds the top of the shock shaft, use an end wrench for the nut, socket on the shock shaft.

I prefer the first method.

I got them on, but I need to confirm how tight or how much compression I should have on the bushings.

Just tighten them until theyre snug. The bushing doesnt really do much besides keep the shock from being metal on metal with the frame.

By the looks of this not so great intall guide I think I went to tight. I have a decent amount of bulge on the bushings. Wonder if it will ruin the lock nut to back them off?
