Awd and 4wd front diff what is different
What is the difference between the 2? I am looking 2 get a crew cab but would like a selectable t case with a front diff that will not bind. Thinking of a 4wd and swapping the front diff. Will this work? Thanks for any help.

The differential itself is the same between the AWD/4WD trucks, where the difference lies is in the passenger side axle tube and axle. The AWD drive models have a one-piece passenger side axle and the axle tube does not have a spot for the encoder motor. The 4WD models have a two-piece passenger side axle, engagement fork and a corresponding axle tube with the encoder motor. You can swap the parts from one to the other.

So I guess the only difference between the 4wd and awd is the t-case and the encoder motor? I was thinking the front diff was different because awd don't seem to bind when turning.

Binding is caused by both front and read axles being driven at the same time. AWD transfercases don't apply constant drive force to both front and rear all the time.

mine is awd stock. driving around it does like a 36/64 or some off the wall power split between front and rear. when driving around there is no bind cause front and rear turn at different speeds. now when i lock it in 4lo then the steering gets ruff just like regular 4wd.
