freakin 10 bolt luck??
Allright i have read about alot of people using a 10 bolt with good luck, so what is my problem? Right now i have a detriot locker (doin good never broke), I have yukon gears (broke do to setup but are installed good now), but axles i cannot keep axles in the truck just keep breaking them. There is zero wheel hop issues, caltracs solved all that. I purchased a set of superior brand axles from summit back in July, I thought they were doin good and i had solved the axle breaking problem with them. But i had a new set of 4.56s installed and when the guy pulled out the axles one of them was twisted. Has anyone else had so many problems out of axles? I have snapped 3 stock axles and now this one that is twisted. The truck isnt really a power house wouldnt be suprised if it didnt even make 300 rwhp right now. But it gets launched hard, 4k rpm dumps with zero tire spin at the track, 1.8 60fts. Should i just quit dumping money into the 10bolt already and find something else. Just getting tired of having to have a trailer on standby everytime i go to the track. Anyone got any ideas?
Jon
I have had this crazy idea of making a 9" to fit back there and I think it is just about that time.

w/ the t56 the rearend becomes the weak link. the autos seem to take the abuse and save the 10 bolt. those 4.56 gears are just making it worse, that much more torque applied to the axles. a little less gear (4.10 or less) would help a some. a rearend swap might be in your future. i would look into maybe a 14 bolt swap over a 9 bolt, unless money is no worry. 14 bolt would be an easier swap i would imagine.

Yeah but a 9 inch would be nice, and im pretty sure i could do it on a budget with good planning and looking around. It would be different too, i havnt seen any NBS silverados running around with a 9" under them. That was part of the reason for the T56 cause it was different, there was only a handful of people with a T56 when i did the swap back in 06.

I use to have the same problems with my 10 bolt. I went through 3 axles before I did the switch. I bracket race all year long, so at least 200 passes a
year. So I decided on the 14 bolt with no problems except for 1 crushed sleeve smashed. I wish I had done the 9". Could have tucked my rear wheels under my fenders and most important would not have C-clips, like the 14 bolt
has.
I launch my truck at 2000 rpms with 1.59 60' and have had no issues except for the crush sleeve. There is a member on here that has 1.54 60' with the 14 bolt. Good Luck

You should look into a main cap support cover. Its a aluminium cover that has to bolt to apply 10 lbft to the main caps to keep them from deflecting. Which is why they usually break one way or another. A 10 bolt properly built is good to about 600 horse in a 3500 pound vehichle.

I'm thinking about this myself. The 14 bolt would be the easiest and prob the cheapest but the big worry with this rear is no "C" clip eliminator exists. If you break an axle which is possible despite the size of those things the damage and headaches you"d have to deal with would make the 9" worth it. I'm going to call Mosher and pick their brains, they have been helpfull in the past.
